Client: Avonworth School District
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Project Cost: $14.8 million
Construction was already underway at the Avonworth schools when the district learned that its construction management firm had gone out of business. To meet its goals of completing the project by the beginning of the school year, the district needed to quickly find an experienced construction management firm who could step in and get the project back on schedule.
Minutes after the school board selected Thomas & Williamson to take over the project, our team members were already at work formulating plans for the transition in management.
Because the project's predecessor had ceased operation, our team had no way of obtaining the schedules, correspondence and other project documentation needed to quickly take-over the project.
Working with documentation collected from the district, contractors, and architect, we quickly performed an analysis of the project and created a new, multi-phase construction schedule that allowed project work to continue unobtrusively while classes were in session.
Our extensive experience in school construction management allowed us to apply our skills in critical path method (CPM) scheduling, The firm presented phasing plans to the principals that minimized the impact from construction. The facility opened one phase at a time, with the final phase completed for the start of school in September 2000.
The construction management services provided for this project included:
- On-site Management and Coordination
- CPM Scheduling
- Contractor Security Clearance Management
- Cost Control
- Project Reporting
- State Funding Assistance
- Close-out and Warranty Assistance Services
